Lighting is one of the main differentiators between someone with a camera and a professional photographer.

But how can you use it to your advantage when taking your own branding pictures at home?

So if you are looking to take a branding portrait using your mobile phone, you must first change your mobile to portrait mode.

Next step, stand next to a wall where a large a window is situated.

You want the light from the window to be brushing past your face and not lit directly especially if the light is strong sunlight.

In essence you are standing just into the shadow created by the window, this light quality is really soft and will produce the best results in terms of shadow transition.

Then take your photo, it’s really as simple as that!
